Kanha National Park Madhya Pradesh


Kanha National Park located in the state of Madhya Pradesh, stretched 940 Km2 from Mandla to Balghat district. Kanha is not only National Park it’s also Tiger Reserve. Kanha National Park established in June 1955 and become Tiger reserve in 1974 under the Project Save Tiger.Kanha is very famous and well regarded for its research and conservation programs, and many facing extinction species have been saved there.The Park's biggest achievement is the preservation of the rare Swamp Deer saving it from near extinction.
Park known for Tiger and rare swamp deer and its conservation programs, it’s also home of extensive variety of other animals, Reptiles and birds like leopards, wild dogs, wild cats, foxes, jackals, Deer, sambar, barking deer and the four-horned deer. Reptiles like pythons, cobras, krait, and rat snakes can be seen rarely. There are many species of turtles found in or near the water bodies. Black buck did not originally survive here as the surrounding was not suitable. However, Black buck have recently been revive here under the conservation program.
Kanha have very rich flora and fauna. It is home to over 1000 species of flowering plants. Parks flora can be divided in two parts; the lowland forest is a mixture of Shorea robusta and other mixed forest trees and open grassy ground. The highland forests are tropical moist dry deciduous type and of a completely different nature with Dendrocalamus strictus. Indian ghost tree (Pench) can also be seen in the Kanha’s dense forest.
In Kanha National Park is plateau also known as sunset point. We think you don’t want to miss this specular awe-inspiring backdrop of the sunset against grazing Sambhars and Gaurs, like other tourist who comes to the national park. Apart from its diverse wildlife and bird population, Most of the tourist came here the frequent sightings of Tigers roaming in the wild at Kanha National Park.
Best time to visit in March and April, when source of water are limited and the animals come out in search of water. You can visit the park during December and January because some animal can be found only winter season. Try to avoid travelling in festive season.
