Biking down the world’s most dangerous Road-La Paz, Bolivia

When you’re ready to take mountains biking to the literal edge, there’s no better place to take the aptly named world’s most dangerous road, the ApoloBamba. This hair rising route leads from high in the Cordillera Real outside La Paz down to the heavy moist Amazonian forest         at the base of the mountain- a drop of almost 3600 m. Even for the adventure seeker, it’s a heart thumbing ride that borders on the terrifying as you roll along a road that takes you to the very brink of some of Bolivia’s highest mountains.
Most of the travelers visiting Bolivia heard a lot about The World’s Most Dangerous Road before they got there. Probably the country’s most talked attraction, Death Road just outside of La Paz is a constant topic of conversation among backpackers who feel they have earned bragging rights.  18 backpackers have died since tours down the Death Road started these numbers are very less compare to die in car accidents.
In the morning you will start out in the clouds and travel down a road that begins as asphalt, but soon becomes rugged dirt & mud. The descent takes you through the mists of small waterfalls and near ledges with sheer drops of 600m- and all the while you’ll be sharing the road with four wheeled traffic. Fortunately vehicle can only travel downhill in the morning after 5 PM traffic direction switches to uphill. The road is 90 percent is downhill, it will take only 4 to 5 hour to complete the ride. It will be intense and immeasurably thrilling ride through some of the most beautiful country Bolivia has to offer.

Best time to Visit: Apr- Oct

Getting there and around: El Alto International Airport s highest airport in the world and well connected through other part of the world. Busses and Taxis are also other option and easily available. Best way to explore La Paz is by Bicycle.
