When you’re ready to take mountains biking to the
literal edge, there’s no better place to take the aptly named world’s most
dangerous road, the ApoloBamba. This hair rising route leads from high in the
Cordillera Real outside La Paz down to the heavy moist Amazonian forest at the base of the mountain- a drop of
almost 3600 m. Even for the adventure seeker, it’s a heart thumbing ride that
borders on the terrifying as you roll along a road that takes you to the very
brink of some of Bolivia’s highest mountains.
Most of the travelers visiting Bolivia heard a lot
about The World’s Most Dangerous Road before they got there. Probably the
country’s most talked attraction, Death Road just outside of La Paz is a
constant topic of conversation among backpackers who feel they have earned
bragging rights. 18 backpackers have
died since tours down the Death Road started these numbers are very less compare
to die in car accidents.
In the morning you will start out in the clouds and
travel down a road that begins as asphalt, but soon becomes rugged dirt &
mud. The descent takes you through the mists of small waterfalls and near
ledges with sheer drops of 600m- and all the while you’ll be sharing the road
with four wheeled traffic. Fortunately vehicle can only travel downhill in the
morning after 5 PM traffic direction switches to uphill. The road is 90 percent
is downhill, it will take only 4 to 5 hour to complete the ride. It will be
intense and immeasurably thrilling ride through some of the most beautiful
country Bolivia has to offer.
